Terps have season-best performance on vault.

TOWSON, Md. -- At the Towson Invitational on Sunday afternoon, the Maryland Terrapins women's gymnastics received strong performances from several individuals and scored a season-high on vault, earning them a second-place finish and improving their record to 12-5.

Maryland scored a season-high 48.275 on vault with all six gymnasts scoring a 9.6 or better. This score contributed to the Terrapins' overall score of 190.925, which placed them second, finishing only behind Towson University who scored a 192.200. Following Maryland was George Washington University which scored a 190.100, the University of Pennsylvania which posted a 185.725, Temple scored a 183.500 to finish fifth and Yale scored a 185.025.

The Terrapins were led by junior Jenny Engel (Monrovia, Md. / Linganore H.S.), who recorded season-highs on vault (9.650), beam (9.600) and floor (9.725). Engel's score on floor earned her third-place overall and set the Maryland season-high. Senior Megyn Byrnes (Mahopac, N.Y. / Mahopac H.S.) also performed well with a season-high score of 9.675 on vault earning her a third-place finish. Byrnes also took third in the all-around competition with a score of 38.150. Senior Alexis Moran (Minersville, Pa. / Minersville H.S.) also stepped up as she scored a 9.650 on bars earning her a fourth-place finish. Freshman Karyn Fein (Charlotte, N.C. / Providence H.S.) also stood out as she took second-place overall on beam with a 9.725.

Maryland's next meet will be on Tuesday, February 24 at 7:30 p.m. against George Washington.
